Executive Biography of John Carney

Colonel John T. Carney Jr. brings over 30 years of distinguished professional experience, including 15 years commanding Air Force and joint-service Special Operations units within the Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), the Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC), and the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM).

Recognized as a pioneering leader in the Special Operations community, Colonel Carney played a vital role in the planning and execution of missions critical to national security since the 1970s. His contributions to the development of operational strategies, force readiness, and deployment procedures have left a lasting impact on modern Special Operations capabilities. Colonel Carney’s expertise has earned him numerous accolades, including induction into the Air Force Air Commando Hall of Fame and receipt of the United States Special Operations Command Medal. He is a recipient of the prestigious Bull Simons Award, honoring individuals who exemplify the values and skills of a Special Operations warrior.

Throughout his career, Colonel Carney has served as a lecturer at esteemed institutions such as the Army Command and General Staff College, Air War College, and the Air Force Special Operations School. He is also the co-author of *No Room for Error*, which chronicles the history and evolution of Special Tactics operations.

As the former President and CEO of the Special Operations Warrior Foundation, Colonel Carney oversaw significant growth, ensuring financial stability for the foundation and securing the future college education of over 900 surviving children of fallen Special Operations personnel. His leadership positioned the foundation among the top charities evaluated by Charity Navigator. Colonel Carney retired from his role with the Special Operations Warrior Foundation in October 2013.
